The Community of Sant’Egidio, in partnership with the Italian police, the Carabinieri, brought Christmas cheer to thousands of people in need around the world. On Christmas Day, they prepared meals for 80,000 homeless individuals, elderly, families struggling to make ends meet, and refugees in Rome, and an additional 250,000 people worldwide.
This annual tradition, which took place on the first full day of the Jubilee Year of Hope, aimed to spread a message of hope to those facing challenges. Volunteers came together to make the event possible, providing not only meals but also personalized gifts for each attendee. The Italian police added to the festive spirit by delivering presents for the children and desserts for the meals.
The Christmas lunch organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio was a powerful reminder that everyone deserves dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances. As the community came together to share a meal, social distinctions disappeared, and everyone was treated with kindness and compassion. This selfless act of kindness embodied the true spirit of Christmas and brought hope and joy to those who needed it most.
