May 08: Saint Amatus Ronconi

Amatus Ronconi was born on 1225 in Saludécio, Rimini. He came from a rich family and was the second son of Felice Ronconi and Santa Marchini.

Amatus’s parents died when he was very young and grew up with his older brother Giacomo. He lived according to the gospel of true Franciscan spirituality. So he became a member of the Franciscan Third Order and devoted himself to helping the poor. During his many missionary works, he established four pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

He died on May 8, 1292, in Saludécio, Rimini, Italy of natural causes and his corpse was placed in the chapel shelters he had built. His relics were transferred to the Pieve di San Biagio in May 1330 after the chapel shelters were destroyed by fire.
