Pope Francis expressed his pain and closeness to the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines. The typhoon left at least 59 dead and 27 missing as it passed through the country.
In the telegram signed by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, it is noted that “following the recent loss of life and destruction caused by typhoon ‘Megi’, His Holiness Pope Francis wishes to express his solidarity with all who suffer after the storm”.
“He also offers the assurance of prayers for the dead, the wounded and the displaced, as well as those involved in the recovery efforts.”
“As a sign of his spiritual closeness, his Holiness invokes God’s blessings of strength and peace upon all the Filipino people,” the letter concludes.
