“Everything Must be Rethought Within the Dream of God”: Pope Francis

In his second Jubilee Audience on hope, Pope Francis encourages us to see conversion as a lifelong journey, using Mary Magdalene, the “Apostle of the Apostles,” as an example of finding new purpose through Jesus. He explains that conversion is not just a single change but an ongoing process where we shift our perspective to seek hope, even amidst suffering. Hope arises when we notice individuals who transform their lives through humility and faith.

Pope Francis emphasizes Mary Magdalene’s story, illustrating how Jesus restored her dignity and made her part of God’s dream. He highlights her encounter with the Risen Christ, where she initially does not recognize Him. However, when He calls her name, she turns and sees Him with new understanding, representing how true faith requires us to continually adjust our views. This experience teaches that conversion happens multiple times, inviting us to look at reality differently.

He challenges us to ask ourselves if we are willing to change our perspective and warns that pride may blind us to recognizing Jesus in unexpected forms, especially in marginalized individuals. Finally, he encourages everyone to learn from Mary Magdalene’s journey, turning towards life with hope in the Risen Jesus, who offers each person a place and mission.
