The Language of Love

There is a Thai short  film titled The Silence of Love and Family. The director portrays the life of a father and daughter with a piece of heart-touching background music. The film opens with the daughter’s self-reflection, ‘I want a better father’, she says. She is unable to accept her father who was born deaf and dumb. She needs a father who can listen to her and talk to her like everyone else’s. As a teenager, she is teased and belittled by other children for her own father’s shortcomings. There was no one to understand her heartache as she stood humiliated. She vents all her frustration on her father in anger and hatred. Not even once did she even look lovingly at her father even though he expresses his wholehearted love towards her daughter. Ignoring his love, she kept complaining about her father’s shortcomings.

We always show this teenage girl’s mindset in our life and its shortcomings. We often don’t see the goodness and blessings that we have. All our abilities and limitations are arranged in a way that suits our life. But we still wish we could have gotten a little better. Although we may think of achieving in life, there are some things in relationships that we cannot change or avoid. It is important to understand that.

Let’s get back to the short film. This girl has a feeling that it is better to end her life than to live in disgrace as someone’s daughter who cannot hear or speak. And for that, she chooses her birthday. But that loving father, who loves his child as much as life, buys a beautiful cake to cut for his daughter’s birthday and waits for twelve o’clock at night, the sight of him getting ready to wish his daughter her birthday is heart-warming. It is as follows:

‘I was born deaf and dumb. I apologize to you for that. I may not be able to speak or hear like other parents, but one thing I know is that I love you with all my heart.’ But without listening to this, the girl is trying to end her life. She got ready to commit suicide. The father, who was waiting for his daughter without sleeping, suddenly heard a voice and called his daughter, but he did not open the door. It is possible to capture the heart of the father who runs to the hospital crying with his daughter lying in a pool of blood. He went to the hospital and cried to all the doctors and nurses in sign language, ‘I have money, I have a house, take everything, but nothing should happen to my daughter.’

A father is crying and begging the doctor to save his daughter’s life. Eventually, she needed blood. He is willing to save his daughter’s life by saying ‘I will’ without any doubt. When she regains consciousness, her daughter is lying on the bed next to her and watching her own father giving blood to her. Realizing her great mistake, she holds her own father’s arms with outstretched arms, lovingly, with tears of remorse. A film that is short but gives very beautiful realizations that instill long thoughts of love in the heart of the audience. She doesn’t see or listen to anything the good father who can’t speak tries to tell his daughter. The truth is that her eyes are open but she is not trying to see. She is finally opening her heart to the realization that only the father she had despised for so long was there to save her from that great danger when he finally took her life dangerously.

This movie conveys a great message when it comes to our lives. Some thoughts in our little minds can lead us to big dangers. Holding on to what we have with the most love will give our life a greater meaning. Especially our relationships; we should not ignore or underestimate our parents and siblings. They are given to us by God the Father. Therefore, it is our great responsibility to stick to our life. Bring us to life and dedicate this day to our loved ones.
