There is a story of faith that comes from Barcelona about one hundred young people from the parishes of San Mateo and San Rafael de la Guineueta. The youngsters will walk more than 1,200 kilometers over 40 days to reach Lisbon, the site of the 37th World Youth Day.
The Archdiocese of Barcelona “the pilgrimage to Lisbon is an integral part of this experience since it represents both an internal and external journey towards the encounter with the Christian faith.”
During the tour, “the young people will immerse themselves in prayer, formation, renunciation and community life, strengthening their faith and preparing for a transformative encounter with Pope Francis”, they detail.
This pilgrimage also intends to be a vehicle to achieve economic contributions with which to recover the chapel of the old Mental Institute of the Holy Cross and build a new parish center.
The Archbishop of Barcelona presided over a Mass for sending out the young pilgrims and was in charge of laying and blessing the first stone for the restoration work on the new temple. The total cost of the project amounts to 2.2 million euros.
