“Recognizing fatherhood and motherhood as a true vocation”, and explained why both complement each other in the custody of human life and in the formation of children says the Bishop of Cúcuta (Colombia), Monsignor José Libardo Garcés Monsalve.
In an article published on the website of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia (CEC), the Prelate warned that “we are witnessing a historical moment in which motherhood is considered an obstacle to the fulfillment of women, however, it is exactly On the contrary, motherhood is a vocation that comes from the Lord, with the mission of safeguarding human life as a gift from God”.
And in the case of the father, he indicated, his vocation and mission is – following the example of Saint Joseph – to guard “the life of the new being that is gestated in the womb.”
“Each woman has received from God the vocation to welcome life, embrace it, protect it (…) and in this way carry out her life as a woman and mother, who discovers the beauty of the new human being who grows and develops her being in an integral way. , with the help, company and custody of the father, who gives the son the ability to face the world,” said the Bishop of Cúcuta in the article published on 23 May.
Bishop Garcés Monsalve said that “in this way, fatherhood and motherhood complement each other and contribute to the growth” and “harmonious development of the child.”
The Colombian Bishop indicated that “from all this it follows that the family as God wanted it from the beginning, a father, a mother and some children, contributes to building person and society in harmony and balance, giving each new being enough for their healthy growth and development, which will allow them to relate to God, to themselves, to others and to the world around them in a healthy and stable way in the future”.
“This constitutes a recognition of fatherhood and motherhood as a contribution to the formation of society,” said the Prelate, who encouraged parents to embrace life, since “a marriage without children would be like a garden without flowers.” , because love always gives life.
In this sense, Bishop José Libardo Garcés recalled that “we are called to strengthen the family as the fundamental cell of society and as the domestic Church, where human life is generated, protected, defended and guarded.”
Therefore, the Bishop encouraged that “we can recognize fatherhood and motherhood as a vocation and mission to safeguard human life at all stages.”
“That, following the example of the Nazareth home, we can strengthen our families with a vocation to generate and welcome life, which helps strengthen faith, hope and charity, in the exercise of our vocation and mission,” he said.
