Water can not be the Object of waste, abuse, or reason for Wars: Pope Francis on World Water Day

Pope Francis stressed the importance of access to water, a primary good “that cannot be the object of waste, abuse, or reason for wars” on 22 March at his general audience within the framework of World Water Day.

the Holy Father recalled the prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi, who said: “Praise be to my Lord for this water, which is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.”

For the Holy Father, in these simple words, “we feel the beauty of creation and the awareness of the challenges involved in caring for it.”

In this line, he recalled that the Second United Nations Conference on Water begins today and assured his prayers for the success of the work.

In addition, he hoped that this important event “accelerate initiatives in favor of those who suffer from water scarcity, this primary good.”

The II United Nations Conference on Water, in which different governments meet to discuss commitments that accelerate the so-called “Sustainable Development Goals”, will be held until March 24 in New York (United States).
