The Vatican Post Office has announced the release of a new series of postage stamps to commemorate the beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s pontificate. The stamps will go on sale on Tuesday, May 27, and feature four different designs corresponding to the current postage rates in the Vatican territory.
Two of the stamps showcase the official portrait of Pope Leo XIV, adorned with the red mozzetta, embroidered stole, rochet, and golden pectoral cross. Another stamp depicts the Pontiff celebrating his first Mass on 9 May with all the cardinals in the Sistine Chapel. The stamps are part of the Holy See’s philatelic tradition, which has been commemorating significant moments in the life of the Church through special issues.
The release of these stamps is a celebration of the new Petrine ministry and a tribute to the Pope’s leadership. The stamps will be available at official points of sale within the Vatican and online, allowing collectors and enthusiasts to acquire them. This special issue is one of the most anticipated releases of the year, featuring the portrait of Pope Leo XIV.
