Vatican Releases the Details of the Next Consistory

The Vatican released this Monday the details of the Ordinary Public Consistory on 30 September, Saturday in which Pope Francis will create 21 new Cardinals.

This event will be the prelude to the Synod of Synodality, the meeting that will bring together Bishops and faithful from all over the world in the Eternal City throughout the month of October.

On the last day of September, at 10:00 a.m. (Rome time), Pope Francis will celebrate the consistory in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

In this ceremony, the Holy Father will create 18 new Cardinals with the right to vote and 3 new Cardinals over 80 years of age, so they will not have the right to vote in a future conclave.

The Pontiff will impose the cardinal’s cap, consecrate the ring and assign the new cardinals their title or diacony.

Once the consistory is over, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., courtesy visits will be made to the new Cardinals.

At these meetings, the faithful can come to greet and congratulate the new Cardinals, who are usually divided between the Apostolic Palace of the Vatican and the Paul VI Hall.

In addition, the Press Office of the Holy See reported that on Wednesday, October 4, the day the Synod of Synodality begins, Pope Francis will preside together with the new Cardinals at a Holy Mass in the Vatican Basilica.
