Msgr. Juan Antonio Cruz Serrano, the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the OAS, assured that the Vatican encourages to find “paths of understanding” in the crisis and the persecution undertaken by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega against the Catholic Church in Nicaragua.
“The situation in Nicaragua” was approved, and the Vatican Observer said that “the Holy See cannot fail to express its concern in this regard, while assuring its desire to always collaborate with those who are committed to dialogue, as an indispensable instrument of democracy and guarantor of a more humane and fraternal civilization,” he said in his speech on Friday, 12 August in Washington.
According to Vatican News, the Spanish priest stressed that “the Holy See calls for the parties to find ways of understanding, based on mutual respect and trust, seeking above all the common good and peace.”
The text resolves to “strongly condemn the forced closure of non-governmental organizations, as well as the harassment and arbitrary restrictions of religious organizations and voices critical of the government and its actions in Nicaragua.”
