Vatican Declines to Biden’s Comment on Pope’s Encouragement on Receiving Communion

The Vatican declined to comment on US President Joe Biden’s statement that Pope Francis encouraged him to keep receiving Holy Communion on Friday.

“I would consider it a private conversation, and it is limited to what was said in the public statement,” said Matteo Bruni, the Director of Holy See press office. Bruni referred to a press release issued by the Vatican saying that the Pope and Biden spoke about the environment, the coronavirus pandemic, refugees, and human rights. Biden told reporters that he and the Pope did not discuss abortion during their 75-minute meeting. Unlike the previous meetings with the various countries’ leaders, there was no live broadcast of the Pope-Biden meeting.
