Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, has urged collective action to safeguard children from the risks posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI). While acknowledging the potential benefits of AI in education and well-being, Cardinal Parolin warned of the dangers of cyberbullying, online exploitation, and AI addiction.
Speaking at a conference on “Risks and Opportunities of AI for Children,” the cardinal emphasized the need for “appropriate responses” to ensure that AI technologies serve the good of all, particularly the most vulnerable. He recalled Pope Francis’s address to the G7, highlighting the need for reflection on the challenges posed by AI.
The conference, organized by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, aimed to raise awareness about the potential risks and opportunities of AI for children. Cardinal Parolin’s call to action underscores the importance of protecting children’s dignity and well-being in the digital age.
