The Parliament of Uruguay paid tribute to the Salesian Family on Thursday, October 8, marking the upcoming 150th anniversary of their arrival in the country. The special recognition was awarded as part of the nation’s “Contemporary Heroes of the Bicentennial” program.
The commemorative ceremony brought together national government officials, legislators, Catholic Church leaders, members of the Salesians of Don Bosco, and civil society representatives. The recognition was jointly received by the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, highlighting the shared mission and unity of the Salesian charism.
This event marks the launch of celebrations honoring 150 years of Salesian presence in Uruguay, spanning from late 2026 through mid-2027. The jubilee period will feature visits from global leaders of the congregation.
