1255: Canonization of Clare of Assisi through Pope Alexander IV, barely two years after her death.
1492: Passing away of Abbot Ephraim, the founder of the Perekop monastery and who built a church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker near Novgorod.
1568: Leonor de Cisneros walks to the stake in Valladolid, Spain, having overcome tortures and threats for Lutheran (Reformation) beliefs.
1626: Demise of Lancelot Andrewes, who influenced the development of Anglican theology and authored the classic prayer book Private Devotions. He also helped in preparing the King James translation.
1861: The northern parts of the United States observe a day of fasting on the order of President Abraham Lincoln.
1862:Â Ecuador, having attained independence from Spanish rule, enters into a concordat with the Roman Catholic Church, guaranteeing to keep Roman Catholicism the only religion of the Republic of Ecuador.
1863: Demise of Frederick William Faber, an English clergyman and hymn-writer, and who left  the Church of England to become Roman Catholic (under the influence of the Oxford Movement?) He founded a religious community in Birmingham and wrote one hundred and fifty hymns.
1897: The idea for the Christian flag emerges in the mind of Charles C. Overton, while looking at the American flag, with white as symbol for purity, innocence and peace, blue panel for faith, trust and sincerity and the red cross, to remind us of our Savior’s sacrifice.
1933: Yesaya Zerenji Mwasi secedes from Livingstonia mission in Malawi and forms an independent church in Tongaland, based on the principles of indigenous work.
1942: Demise of Wilson Carlile, the founder of the Church Army, which aimed at reaching the working classes.
2010: Chinese officials raid a house-church led by Liao Zhongxiu in Sichuan Province, seizing Christian books, and detaining Christians. Liao was jailed the following year.
