1630: Priestly ordination of George Herbert in Church of England. He became sick and wrote numerous religious poems from his sickbed before he succumbed to his illness.
1853: J. Hudson Taylor, a Baptist pioneer missionary, set sail from England to China. He founded the China Inland Mission in 1865, which is now known as Overseas Missionary Fellowship.
1874: Florence Young comes to the realization of Christ’s protection in her life and begins to  serve the Lord gladly. She was instrumental in founding and operating the South Sea Evangelical Mission.
1918: Cheka Communists execute two Orthodox nuns Vyrubova and Kalerina at St. John the Theologian in Cherdyn, Perm province, accusing them of “counter-revolutionary agitation.”
1938: The Carpatho-Russian Diocese of the Eastern Rite of the U.S.A. is raised to the status of a diocese of the Greek Orthodox Church. Father Orestes Chornock, the Orthodox bishop of Agathonikia, became the first Metropolitan of the new diocese.
1971: Demise of William F. Albright, an American Methodist archaeologist. He served as professor of Semitic languages at Johns Hopkins for nearly 30 years, and authored over 1,000 articles and books, and led several Near-East expeditions, which excavated the biblical sites of Gibeah, Bethel and Petra.
1993: Repose of Abba Gebre Michael, an Ethiopian Catholic, who had translated several prayer books into Amharic, the official language of his country.
