1621: John Donne, the famous metaphysical poet, a convert from Catholicism to the Church of England and a famous preacher, is appointed dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London by King James I.
1672: Richard Baxter defies the English law which forbade him from preaching.
1862: Birth of William (Billy) Sunday, a baseball player turned American revivalist, who preached to an estimated total audience of 100 million before his death in 1935.
1867: Metropolitan Philaret, who had struggled to free the church from government interference, Â passes away. He had also supported the efforts of the Russian Bible Society to translate the Bible into modern Russian of the common people.
1885: Birth of Haldor Lillenas, an American hymn-writer, who penned nearly 4,000 Gospel texts and hymn tunes during his lifetime.
1900: Death of Samuel J. Stone, an Anglican clergyman and famous hymn-writer and hymnologist, who had published five collections of hymns
1910: Swedish Pentecostal missionaries Daniel Berg and Adolf Vingren arrive in Brazil; they established the first Pentecostal church after eight years, which grew into the Assemblies of God, the largest Protestant body in Brazil.
1961: The Third Assembly of the World Council of Churches convened at New Delhi, India. During this meeting, the International Missionary Council and its work were integrated into this larger ecumenical group.
1967: Ordination of Jacob Olawale Omoniyi as a Baptist minister in Nigeria. he later became a notable educator, pastor, and leader and even the first chairman of the Oyo West Baptist Conference.
