1563: Demise of Sebastian Castellio at Basle, Switzerland, who was famous for the work Concerning Heretics, which called for religious tolerance.
1824: Repose of Basiliscus, a founder of monasticism in Siberia.
1841: Chartering of Howard College in Marion, Alabama, by the Baptist church.
1849: The famous Christmas hymn “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” by Edmund Sears first published in The Christian Register
1899: Sidney Brooks becomes the first victim of the Boxer Rebellion, near Tai’an, China. Tens of thousands of Chinese Christians and foreign missionaries were massacred by the Boxers the following year.
1932: Conversion of Allen Yuan, who later became a Chinese evangelist.
1938: The second world meeting of the International Missionary Council closes at Madras Christian College, Tambaram, South India; it is known as the IMC’s Tambaram Conference.
2000: The Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the oldest Protestant church building in South America, a National Historic and Artistic Monument by the Argentinean government. It also declared a Russian Orthodox church and a Jewish synagogue as historic and artistic monuments.
