Forgiving someone is not a quick or easy task. Forgiveness is something that requires daily effort. We often have to forgive others more than once for past hurts. Here are three practical things that can help us forgive others.
1. Say ‘I’m sorry’
The simplest and most important step to forgive someone is to say out loud, ‘I forgive (this person)’. But it is not always easy. you can repeat it daily. Make time to make patience a part of your daily life. Find a regular activity and time for it.
2. Remember the Past
There may be wounds in your life that you choose not to think about, that you don’t want to bring to mind and that you’ve dismissed. This is normal. But you need to do some mental work to bring those painful experiences to light. If you don’t acknowledge the hidden pain, you won’t know what and who to forgive. At first, remember the person and what caused you pain. Acknowledge its presence and pain in my life, and then be able to say, “That hurts me, but I forgive that person.”
3. Prepare Yourself Daily
In the morning, think about your day. Identify which things frustrate you and destroy your peace. Make sure you understand them in advance and how to handle them when difficult situations arise. By practising apologizing in advance, you can think about how to best respond.
