The Vatican Suspends the General Audiences of Pope Francis in Ju

The General Audience of Pope Francis are suspended from July 1 to Wednesday, August 9. The Prefecture of the Papal Household announced through a statement that as of July 1, 2023, the Holy Father will not have public or private audiences and that he will resume his schedule in August.

During this usual period of rest, Pope Francis will only lead the Angelus on Sundays from the window of the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace.

Therefore, on Wednesday, August 9, the General Audience will resume, which the Pope will dedicate to reflecting on his trip to WYD in Lisbon, where he will remain until August 6.

It should be remembered that on Wednesday, June 21, Pope Francis did not preside over the General Audience from Saint Peter’s Square due to medical advice, after he underwent abdominal surgery on June 7.

After the postoperative period, the Vatican confirmed that tomorrow, June 28, there will be a General Audience.

Previously, the Pontiffs used to go during their rest period to the pontifical palace of Castel Gandolfo , in the hills of Rome, especially due to the high temperatures that accompany the Eternal City in the month of August. For that same reason Saint John Paul II also went to the mountains in northern Italy.

However, Pope Francis changed that practice and during his pontificate he has always remained in the Vatican, in the Casa Santa Marta, although with a smaller agenda.
