Lent is a season of being deep in a relationship with God. To observe a spiritually wide Lent, keep in mind the three concepts, that we can call, the three pillars of Lent. Prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are the three pillars of Lent. These practices have been a part of the church tradition for centuries and are still observed by many Christians today.
Prayer
Prayer is a vital part of the Lenten season. It is a time for being closer to God with prayer. This can be achieved through daily prayers, attending church services, or participating in devotional activities such as the Stations of the Cross.
Fasting
It is another important view of Lent. It involves giving up luxuries or desires and focusing on spiritual needs. This can take many forms, such as giving up food for a day, abstaining from certain foods for some time, or giving up other things like television or social media.
The purpose of fasting is to help individuals keep closer to God by acknowledging their dependence on God and breaking away from worldly distractions.
Almsgiving
Almsgiving can act as the third pillar of Lent and involves helping the needy and poor. This is the opportunity to extend help to charities, volunteering time in a hospital, or a person who is sick or abandoned. Almsgiving is an expression of compassion and love. It is an integral part of the entire season, as it helps individuals to focus on their obligations to others and to live a life of selflessness and service.
These three pillars show the importance of spiritual growth in the season and throughout the life of an individual.
