There are many who have led a holy life by standing with God who has given them the ability to understand the secrets of the hearts of others. In this way, God endowed all those who remained close to him with abilities beyond human comprehension. Thus we know of a saint whom God has given the ability to understand the secrets of the hearts of others.
Saint John of Egypt was given the ability to understand the secrets of the hearts of others. Saint John of Egypt was a man who lived in the period A D 305-394. He was born the son of a carpenter. John grew up immersed in the love of God from an early age. When John was 25, he heard God’s call and left home. He later lived in the desert for many years as a disciple of a monk. The monk used to get John to do useless work to test him. He asked him to do the work of dragging large rocks to the top of the hill and watering the withered plant. John knew that doing all this made no sense. Even though John did without any hesitation. Through his perfect obedience and humility, John even pleased his Master.
God had given John the power to predict what would happen. John was once visited by a young monk named Palladius. John told him. “One day you will become a bishop,” the young monk laughed. “Should I be a bishop, just a cook in the monastery?” John said. “It must have happened.” Palladius was soon proclaimed Bishop. So what John said came true.
John left the monastery after spending sixteen years with the monk. He climbed to the top of a high rock in Lycopolis and started living in a small cave there. John’s life was one with God alone and without contact with anyone else. He was there five days a week without seeing anyone else. He healed the sick who sought him out on Saturday and Sunday. He used to give advice to those who are troubled. He fasted all day; Eat a little at night. John lived in a cave from the age of 42 to the age of 90. He had built a hospital to accommodate his visitors.
God had given John the ability to understand even the secrets of the hearts of others. Once, a priest and six others visited John. He had not told John who he was. Kissing his hands John said, “Never lie. Even if for good. Lying can never come from God. Instead, our Savior has taught us that it comes from Satan. ” The last three years of John’s life were devoted entirely to God. John was not ready to see anyone else. The saint died while kneeling and praying.
