During the 1970s, a serial killer named Ted Bundy, also known as Theodore Robert Bundy, created an atmosphere of terror in the United States. Before being executed in 1989, Ted confessed to abducting and raping several young women and girls between 1974 and 1978. This is a wonderful story of the rosary associated with this man.
On the night of January 15, 1978, Ted Bundy broke into the Chi Omega Hostel at State University in Florida, USA. At three o’clock in the morning, he brutally murdered two girls and then went down to kill the man in the next room. He ran towards the girl with the bat in his hand, but when he saw the rosary hanging in the girl’s hand, he lowered the bat and Ted Bundy went down like a kitten.
The girl who was facing death found it hard to believe. Police rushed to the spot but the frightened girl could not speak. Monsignor William Carey, the vicar of the place, described the incident to the girl.
When she left for university, her grandmother asked her only one thing. Pray the rosary before going to bed every night. Every day she kept this promise. She fell asleep that night while praying the rosary. When Bundy entered the room, he saw a rosary hanging from the girl’s hand.
Several years after, Ted Bundy, who was in prison awaiting execution, asked the prison authorities for spiritual advice. Surprisingly, it was Monsignor William Kerr who came to speak to Bund in prison that day. During the conversation, Bundy described what happened at Sorority House in Florida. “I entered the girl’s room that night with the sole intention of killing her, but as soon as I set foot in that room, an unknown force pulled me back. I had no choice but to throw away my weapon and escape.”
It was the Blessed Virgin Mary who saved the girl from death that day, who was regularly reciting the rosary. Families who recite the rosary daily will have the special protection of the Holy Mother.
