Pope Francis urged to promote decent work for women and youth and pointed out the importance of the teachings of the Social Doctrine of the Church when the Holy Father received the Italian Christian Movement Workers on 9 December as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of its foundation.
Referring to a passage from the Gospel (Mt 20, 1-16), the Pope pointed out that “in each season of history, like each hour of the day, it is a propitious moment to make a contribution and try to offer a response “.
Along these lines, the Holy Father warned that “no one should feel excluded from work” and encouraged the promotion of work in favor of women and youth.
“Do not miss your commitment to promote women’s work, to encourage young people to join the world of work, with decent contracts and not ‘hunger’, to safeguard time and respite for the family, for volunteering and to care for relationships. Please, reject all forms of exploitation!” asked the Pope.
In this way, Pope Francis stressed the importance of the principles of solidarity and subsidiarity of the Social Doctrine of the Church.
“ Without subsidiarity there is no true solidarity , because there is a risk of not giving voice to the skills, to the talents that flourish in the intermediate bodies”.
For this reason, the Pope said that “families, cooperatives, companies, associations are the living fabric of society ” and added “giving them space and voice means releasing energy so that the common good is the fruit of commitment and solidarity among all”.
“Social inequalities, forms of slavery and exploitation, family poverty due to lack of work or poorly paid work are realities that must be heard in our ecclesiastical circles,” warned Pope Francis.
