Synod Leaders Pledge Obedience to Pope Leo XIV

The leadership of the Vatican Synod Office has publicly pledged its full availability and support to Pope Leo XIV in a letter shared on its website and social media. The letter, signed by Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General, and Undersecretaries Sister Nathalie Becquart and Archbishop Luis Marín de San Martín, expresses confidence in the Pope’s guidance and commitment to the synodal journey.

The synod, described as an “ecclesial journey guided by the Holy Spirit,” aims to foster a missionary Church that is attentive to listening, close to every person, and capable of authentic relationships. The letter highlights the synod’s progress since its inception in 2021 and Pope Francis’ approval of the final document in October 2024.

The General Secretariat of the Synod remains committed to offering its services in a spirit of collaboration and obedience to Pope Leo XIV, who, as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, participated in both sessions of the Synod on Synodality assembly. The letter concludes by looking forward to the Pope’s guidance and suggestions for the growth of a synodal Church.
