The Servants of the Home of the Mother congregation has announced the start of the beatification process for Sister Clare Crockett, a young nun who died in the 2016 Ecuador earthquake. The process will begin on 12 January 2025, with a ceremony at the Magistral Cathedral of the Holy Children Justo and Pastor in Alcalá de Henares, Spain.
Sister Clare Crockett was a member of the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother who died on 16 April 2016, during a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Playa Prieta, Ecuador. The earthquake claimed the lives of at least 673 people. Born in Derry, Northern Ireland, in 1982, Clare had aspirations to become a famous actress in Hollywood before a life-changing encounter with God on Good Friday in 2000.
Clare’s journey to religious life began during a Holy Week retreat with the Servants of the Home of the Mother in Spain. She made her first vows in 2006 and dedicated her life to various apostolates in Spain, the United States, and Ecuador. Her congregation describes her as living a “coherent life” that transmitted the message that only God can satisfy the human heart.
The beatification process was initiated after numerous requests from the faithful and intense prayer and reflection by the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother. Bishop Antonio Prieto of Alcalá de Henares will preside over the opening ceremony, and Sister Kristen Gardner will serve as the postulator for the cause.
A documentary about Sister Clare’s life, “All or Nothing: Sr. Clare Crockett,” has garnered over 4.5 million views on YouTube since its release in 2018. Her biography, “Sister Clare Crockett: Alone with the Alone,” was written by Sister Kristen Gardner in 2020.
The Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother express gratitude for this significant step in studying Sister Clare’s life and virtues, seeing it as a clear indication of God’s will.
