Today we celebrate the Feast of Annunciation. Remembrance of the Blessed Virgin Mary receiving the good news. As the war between Ukraine and Russia continues, Pope Francis, the head of the global Catholic Church, is today consecrating the two troubled countries to the Holy Mother of God. Pope Francis dedicates Russia-Ukraine countries to Immaculate Heart of Mary today; The Pope hopes that peace will be restored in both countries through seven ways to participate in the dedication. Pope Francis will officiate at 9.30 pm (IST)at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.
“The dedication of both nations is a plea for peace before God,” the Pope said. Let us join in the Pope’s prayers for peace. Below are seven suggestions that will help you to join.
1. Attend the Holy Mass
Bishops in many archdioceses offer Mass at the same time. The public can also participate in this Mass. Let us join the Church and offer the Holy Mass together and pray for us and for both nations.
2. Say the Prayer of Consecration
We can also take part in this ritual by personally reciting the prayers of consecration. The Vatican has published the prayer a couple of days back.
3. Participate in Community Prayers
In many churches, public prayers are offered as part of the Consecration. In some parishes, rosary prayers are offered before the Holy Mass at the time of the dedication. Some churches have vigil prayers and worship of the Divine Mercy. By participating in such public prayers, we can also pray for Russia and Ukraine.
4. Fast
The Pope has invited believers around the world to observe Fasting on 23 February, for peace in Ukraine. The next day, the Russia – Ukraine war broke out. The Pope called for resistance to these attacks through prayer and fasting. Fasting reminds us to be nourished by God’s Word, to be filled with His grace, and to live in obedience to the Holy Spirit.
5. Perform Pilgrimages
You can travel to the pilgrimage sites with the special intention that peace be restored in Ukraine. Pilgrimages can be made barefoot with sacrifices and prayers.
6. Attend the Consecration Online
There is a live broadcast of Consecration from the Vatican. At that time we can also participate in the devotional papal liturgy and pray online.
7. Do Charity
Doing charity is a powerful weapon against the attacks. Let us help and pray for our brothers and sisters with the mission of restoring peace in Ukraine.
