Seoul Launches Official App to Guide International Pilgrims for World Youth Day 2027

The Local Organizing Committee for World Youth Day (WYD) 2027, led by Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taick, has officially released a dedicated mobile app to assist young Catholics preparing for the global gathering in South Korea. Provisionally titled “WYD 2027,” the app is now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play in both English and Korean, with Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian translations planned for future updates. A permanent name for the application will be chosen through an upcoming global naming contest.
Designed for ease of use, the app allows pilgrims to access most features without needing to create an account or log in. It opens with an inviting message—“Take courage and come to Seoul, a pilgrimage journey we walk together”—alongside a live countdown to the event, which is scheduled for August 3 to 8, 2027. The app offers a comprehensive preparation guide, covering spiritual readiness, packing kits, travel logistics, and practical local advice, including details on South Korea’s summer weather, typhoon guidelines, electrical adapters, emergency services, and cultural etiquette. To help visitors navigate daily life, it also includes a Korean-language phrasebook complete with English phonetic guides for common phrases and Mass responses.
Beyond logistical assistance, the app serves as an interactive companion for exploring the local Church’s rich heritage. It features a Google Maps-based locator for key shrines, event venues, and historical sites, as well as a digital museum pilgrimage program. Pilgrims who log into the app can verify their visits to three major historical Catholic sites in Seoul—including Myeongdong Cathedral and the Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine—to earn an official certificate of completion. Organizers plan to continuously update the platform with new content and integration for digital pilgrim cards as the event draws closer.
