Rise in Anti-Christian Crimes in Europe

A recent report by the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe (OIDAC) reveals a disturbing surge in hate crimes against Christians, with nearly 2,500 documented cases across 35 European countries between 2023 and 2024.

France tops the list, accounting for approximately 1,000 incidents, with 90% targeting churches or cemeteries. The report notes 84 attacks against individuals, including physical assaults, harassment, and threats. Arson attacks on churches are also on the rise, with 8 confirmed cases in 2023 and 14 in the first 10 months of 2024.

The UK reported 702 hate crimes against Christians, a 15% increase from 2023. Germany saw 277 “politically motivated hate crimes” in 2023, a 105% increase from the previous year.

Emotional toll on victims, including two nuns who fled Nantes due to persistent hostility and insecurity. Christians prosecuted for praying silently in “buffer zones” also raise concerns about freedom of religion.

The alarming rise in anti-Christian crimes demands attention from European authorities, policymakers, and civil society. Effective measures must be taken to protect Christian communities, ensure religious freedom, and address the root causes of intolerance.
