A heartfelt farewell Mass was celebrated at Castel Gandolfo for a group of dedicated religious sisters who completed their university studies in Rome. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle presided over the ceremony, acknowledging the sisters’ hard work and achievements. The women, hailing from diverse congregations, had been living together at the Collegio Missionario “MATER ECCLESIAE” in Castel Gandolfo, traveling daily to Rome for classes and research.
During the homily, Cardinal Tagle reflected on the biblical encounter between Mary and Elizabeth, highlighting the transformative power of surrendering to God’s will. He encouraged the sisters to carry the Lord’s presence with them, bearing witness to His love and mercy in a world often plagued by darkness and despair. “Anything is possible if we open our hearts to God,” echoed Sr. Genowefa Kudlik, Director of the Collegio Missionario “MATER ECCLESIAE”, as she congratulated the sisters on their accomplishments.
The sisters’ academic pursuits were made possible through scholarships provided by the Dicastery for Evangelization, which supports the education of religious women from Asia and Africa at pontifical universities, including the Pontifical Urban University. Sr. Evelyn Awona from Ghana was among the graduates, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Sciences and a Licentiate in Canon Law after six years of study. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to study in Rome and looks forward to applying her skills to benefit her congregation, the Church, and the broader community.
The farewell Mass marked the end of a transformative experience for the sisters, who had grown in knowledge, faith, and community. As they bid each other farewell, it was clear that their time at Castel Gandolfo had prepared them to face new challenges and opportunities, empowered to make a meaningful impact in the world.
