Priest Shot to Death in Mexico

Fr. Juan Angulo Fonseca, 53, a priest belongs to The Diocese of San Juan de Los Lagos in Jalisco (Mexico), which occurred on Friday,10 February.

As reported by the Mexican newspaper El Financiero, the priest was killed from behind, after receiving two shotgun blasts. The murder occurred in the municipality of Atotonilco el Alto, in the state of Jalisco.

According to the first investigations, the murder would have occurred due to a land dispute in the area.

“The Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos raises supplications to God, Father of Mercy, before the sensitive death of Mr. Pbro. Juan Angulo Fonseca”, states a diocesan statement dated 11 February.

“God rewards the dedication of his life in the name of Christ in favor of the Church! His soul of him and that of all the faithful departed, by the mercy of God, rest in peace! ”, Points out the text of the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos.

“We entrust to God, and to infinite mercy, that he grants you to celebrate the eternal Eucharist in the company of the Virgin Mary, the angels and the saints and that he help us, pilgrims on this earth, to always seek paths of peace and brotherhood. ”, wrote Bishop Jorge Alberto Cavazos, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of San Juan de los Lagos.

“I entrust all the priests to offer a novena of masses and prayer for our brother,” added the Prelate in a statement.

Fr. Angulo was born in the municipality of Tepatitlán de Morelos, in the state of Jalisco, on January 24, 1970. He has ordained a priest on May 2, 1998.

The priest had been working since 2017 at the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Parish in Valle de Guadalupe.

He also served in other parishes such as the Immaculate Conception, San José Obrero and Espíritu Santo.
