Pope Francis warns the dangers of consumerist culture and recalls that ‘you have to consume to live, not live to consume’ so it is necessary ‘a true change of course ‘. This is what the Holy Father wrote in a message sent to the participants of the High Level meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe with the theme “Environment and human rights: Right to a safe, healthy and sustainable environment” that takes place in Strasbourg on 29th September.
“A true change of course is needed, a new awareness of the human being’s relationship with himself, with others, with society, with creation and with God,” the Holy Father emphasized. Along with this Pope regrets that human being thinks that he is the lord of the universe and not its responsible administrator. Hence he no longer recognizes his due position in relation to the world, he justifies all kinds his malpractices. As a community, we are committed to ensuring that every individual lives with dignity and has adequate opportunities for their holistic development. ‘We need to work, not wait; Pope said and invited Europe to conserve the nature of all around the world.
