Pope Leo XIV Urges Proper Use of Wealth as a Service to Humanity in November Prayer Intention

Pope Leo XIV has called on Catholics worldwide to dedicate the month of November to praying for the proper use of wealth. Released through the monthly “Pray with the Pope” video by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, the Holy Father’s message emphasizes recognizing that every resource—from fertile land and personal talents to inherited effort—is a shared gift from God rather than a private possession.
In his message, the Pope cautioned against allowing accumulated riches to harden hearts, foster selfishness, or lead to the neglect of the vulnerable. He offered a prayer asking for forgiveness for storing up resources instead of sharing them, and for using material goods as tools of power rather than service. Drawing on the teachings of Jesus, he reminded believers that genuine wealth lies not in what is kept, but in what is given with love.
Pope Leo XIV highlighted that a heart detached from material possessions holds the power to transform society by opening paths of justice, dismantling indifference, and bringing hope to the poor. He urged people to use their money, time, talent, and opportunities as instruments of fraternity, ensuring that economic, family, and community choices reflect the principle that all goods are meant for the common benefit.
The monthly initiative is organized by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, a Pontifical Work originally founded in 1844 as the Apostleship of Prayer and later established as a Vatican Foundation by Pope Francis. Active in over 92 countries with more than 22 million members, the network connects a global spiritual community around the Pope’s monthly intentions to address major challenges facing humanity and the Church.
