Pope Leo XIV has encouraged Catholics to ensure parish activities reflect a Church that cares for her children, during a visit to Santa Maria della Presentazione parish in Rome’s Torrevecchia neighborhood. The area faces significant social challenges, but is marked by strong community bonds.
The Pope emphasized the connection between God’s closeness and faith, using the Gospel account of Jesus and the Samaritan woman. He noted that encountering Christ transforms individuals into witnesses, and urged the faithful to respond to social difficulties with pastoral charity.
Leo XIV pointed to the Eucharist as the heart of Christian community life, saying parishes should welcome, listen to, and support those in need. He also spoke to children about prayer, peace, and reconciliation, encouraging them to reject violence and promote harmony.
