Pope Leo XIV Pleads for Peace in Iran Amidst Escalating Conflict

Pope Leo XIV has urged an end to violence in Iran, praying that “the roar of bombs might cease, that weapons might fall silent, and that a space for dialogue might open”. He expressed deep concern over the situation in the Middle East, citing “violence and devastation” and a “widespread climate of hatred and fear”.

The Pope’s appeal comes after explosions erupted following strikes at the Tehran Oil Refinery. He warned of an “immense tragedy” if violence escalates, urging parties to assume moral responsibility and stop the spiral of violence.

Pope Leo XIV emphasized that stability and peace are built through dialogue, not threats or weapons. He prayed for nations to return to dialogue, seeking peaceful coexistence founded on justice, and entrusted his prayer to Mary, Queen of Peace.
