The Vatican Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, stated that Pope Francis could visit Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, in August.
The Archbishop pointed out in an interview that “the Pope is very convinced that if he could make a visit, he could have positive results. He has said that he will go to Ukraine and has always shown availability to travel and visit Moscow”.
When asked if the trip could take place after the papal trip to North America at the end of July, the English Prelate replied: “Yes. I think that when I return from Canada we will start to really study the possibilities”.
Asked if the visit could take place in August, the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States said: “Possibly. I wouldn’t rule it out, but as I said, a lot depends on the outcome of the trip to Canada, we’ll see how it holds up because it’s a very eventful trip.”
Pope Francis, who has had a health problem in his knees for a few months, will make an apostolic trip to Canada for a week, from July 24 to 30, in which the indigenous peoples of the North American country will have a leading role.
