Pope Francis will not attend the United Nations climate summit in Glasgow, Scotland, the Vatican communicated on Friday. The Vatican delegation to the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference(COP26) would be led by Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin. The details were said by Matteo Bruni, the Director of the Holy See. The Vatican never officially declared that the Pope would take part in the summit on November 1-12.
The Glasgow Summit will encourage the governments to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Pope had sought many efforts to save the environment. He issued the encyclical Lauda to si in 2015 just after two years after he was elected.
