Pope Francis’ Visit to Cyprus and Greece Starts Tomorrow

Pope Francis will visit Cyprus and Greece from December 2 to 6. The Pope will visit at first Cyprus, a diocese spread over 16 parishes. There are 230 missionaries and 50 religious teachers. Cyprus has a population of 85,000 and 38,000 Catholics. There are currently two Major Seminaries there.

The Catholic Church operates in schools from kindergarten to secondary school in Cyprus. They work for about 2,000 children and young people. Six of the 31 charitable and community centers run by various organizations of the Catholic Church are dedicated to the care of the elderly.

During the trip, the Pope will also visit Greece, which is spread over 11 dioceses with 79 parishes and 16 pastoral centers. With a population of 11 million, there are about 82,000 Catholics. There are 12 bishops, 94 priests, six permanent deacons, and 84 devotees. There are about 27 nurseries, primary and secondary schools run by Catholic institutions. More than 7,000 children and youth study there.

It also has a hospital, five nursing homes, an orphanage, two special education centers, and community activities run by dedicated communities.
