Pope Francis will be discharged from the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital in Rome this Sunday, March 24, after nearly 40 days recovering from bilateral pneumonia. Dr. Sergio Alfieri, director of the medical-surgical department, confirmed the news during a press conference, stating that the Pope’s condition has improved significantly.
Although the 88-year-old Pope will be discharged, health officials warn that he cannot immediately resume his normal work schedule due to his chronic bronchitis. Instead, he will undergo at least two months of convalescence, during which he will have to limit his activities and avoid large groups of people.
The Pope’s convalescence period is expected to last until the end of May, and his residence at Casa Santa Marta has been adapted to meet his needs. Doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery and be able to resume his normal schedule once he has completed his convalescence.
