Pope Francis’ health has seen “slight improvements” in mobility, breathing, and voice, according to a statement from the Vatican Press Office on Friday, April 4. The 88-year-old Pontiff remains stable and continues his treatment and therapy at Santa Marta, his residence in the Vatican.
The Vatican spokesman, Matteo Bruni, also announced that next Sunday’s Angelus could be held differently than in previous weeks, and the Press Office would provide an update.
Pope Francis has been convalescing since leaving the hospital last Sunday, March 23, and continues with prescribed antibiotic treatment and physical therapy exercises. Blood tests have shown a slight improvement in infection parameters, and oxygen therapy has been slightly reduced.
Despite his health challenges, Pope Francis continues to engage in work activities, including following Father Pasolini’s Lenten sermon in the Paul VI Hall by videoconference and participating remotely in the Mass presided over by Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
The Vatican emphasizes that the Holy Father’s spirits are good, but it is still premature to make predictions about his possible presence at Holy Week ceremonies.
