Pope Francis has sent a telegram of condolences to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, on the passing of his mother, Ada Miotti Parolin. The 96-year-old mother of Cardinal Parolin passed away on August 31, and her funeral is being held today at the parish church of Schiavon in northern Italy.
In the telegram, Pope Francis expressed his spiritual closeness to Cardinal Parolin and his family, offering his prayers and condolences. The Pope entrusted Ada Miotti Parolin to God’s mercy, praying that she may be welcomed into eternal joy. He also invoked consolation in faith in the risen Christ for the mourning family and sent his paternal blessing.
Due to his mother’s passing, Cardinal Parolin had to postpone his departure on the papal plane to Jakarta, Indonesia, where Pope Francis is currently on his 45th Apostolic Journey in Asia and Oceania. He is expected to join the Pope after the funeral.
