Pope Francis Rebukes Christians who Believe in Superstitions

Pope Francis made a brief pause to call attention to Christians who fall into superstitious practices such as card reading or horoscopes on Sunday during the Angelus prayer.

Before some 15,000 faithful, the Pontiff was reflecting on the prophetic mission that all Christians receive at Baptism.

But who is the prophet? asked the Holy Father. Some people imagine him as a kind of magician who predicts the future; but this is a superstitious idea and the Christian does not believe in superstitions, such as magic, cards, horoscopes or the like.

“In parentheses: many, many Christians go to have their hands read… Please!” exclaimed Pope Francis.

Then, the Pontiff summarized his reflection and recalled that “prophet, brothers and sisters, is each one of us”, and that, “by virtue of Baptism, helps others to read the present under the action of the Holy Spirit” to understand God’s projects and correspond to them.

In this sense, Pope Francis affirmed that “the prophet is the one who shows Jesus to others”, bears witness and helps build tomorrow according to his plans. “Therefore, we are all prophets, witnesses of Jesus,” he pointed out.
