Pope Francis met His Beatitude de el Chrysostom II, Orthodox Archbishop of Cyprus at the Orthodox Archbishopric of Cyprus, Nicosia On his second day in Cyprus.
Holy Father was greeted and had a warm welcome at the entrance by a representative of the Holy Orthodox synod and by His Beatitude of him Chrysostomos II.
In his speech, Pope Francis recalled the common origin of Orthodox and Catholics is in Saint Paul, who “crossed Cyprus and later arrived in Rome. Therefore, we descend from the same apostolic ardor and we are united by a single path: that of the Gospel. ” It pleases me to see that we continue to walk in the same direction, in search of a growing brotherhood and full unity. In this piece of the Holy Land that spreads the grace of the Holy Places in the Mediterranean, the memory of so many biblical pages and figures comes naturally. Among all of them, I would like to refer again to Saint Barnabas, highlighting some aspects that can guide us along the way ”, said Pope Francis.
The Pope also assured His Beatitude Chrysostomos II and the Orthodox Bishops that their “experience of their synodality can truly be of great help to us” and thanked the collaboration they maintain.
