After a six-hour flight from Jakarta, Indonesia, Pope Francis arrived at Jacksons Airport in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, on 6 September. The Holy Father was greeted by Deputy Prime Minister and two children in traditional attire, who presented him with flowers.
Following a brief welcoming ceremony, which included a Guard of Honour, anthems, and flag honors, the Pope met with delegations and bid farewell to authorities. He then traveled to the Apostolic Nunciature to rest before resuming his schedule.
During his stay in Port Moresby, Pope Francis will meet with the Governor, authorities, diplomatic corps, Prime Minister, street children, bishops, and religious leaders. He will also celebrate a Holy Mass before departing for Vanimo, the capital of Sandaun Province, on 8 September.
A large crowd gathered at the airport exit, holding welcome signs, to greet the Holy Father. Despite appearing tired, Pope Francis smiled and waved to the enthusiastic crowd.
