Pope Francis condemned and expressed the prayerful closeness to Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al- Khadhimi after an attempted assassination attack on his home with armed drones. The Pope sent a telegram message to the PM on 9 November condemning it as a vile act of terrorism.
“Following attack on your residence in Baghdad, his Holiness Pope Francis wishes me to convey his prayerful closeness to you and your family, and to those injured in condemning this vile act of terrorism,” said the message sent behalf of the Pope by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Al- Khadimi was unharmed in the attack on 7 November, but six of his guards were wounded. No group had claimed responsibility for the assassination attempt.
