Pope Francis Expresses Closeness to Peru

Pope Francis expressed his closeness “to the beloved people of Peru, who are going through a difficult moment of social tension,” on Palm Sunday, in the Angeles.

The Holy Father addressed the Peruvian people, who have been experiencing growing social and political tension since the end of March, with protests in various parts of the country against the administration of socialist President Pedro Castillo.

“I accompany you with prayers and encourage all parties to find a peaceful solution as soon as possible for the good of the country, especially for the poorest, with respect and the rights of all and of the institutions,” Pope Francis said to the faithful gathered in Saint Peter’s Square.
