Pope Francis met with the members of the Order of the Strict Observance, known as the Order of the Trappist (Trappists), in the Vatican. During the meeting, Pope Francis highlighted 4 “dreams of Jesus”.
In his speech at the Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father invited the Trappists to undertake a spiritual search: “The search for the dreams of Jesus, that is, for his greatest desires that the Father aroused in his divine-human heart ”.
“It is about interpreting all these dreams through Christ, identifying ourselves with Him through the Gospel and imagining in an objective, contemplative sense, how Jesus dreamed these realities: communion, participation, mission and formation,” he explained.
Regarding this first “dream of Jesus”, Pope Francis explained that “it consists in our common relationship with Christ, and in Him with the Father in the Spirit”.
Along these lines, he recalled that “Jesus was not afraid of the diversity that existed among the Twelve, and for this reason, we should not fear diversity either, because the Holy Spirit loves to stir up differences and make harmony out of them.”
“This is why Jesus’ dream of communion frees us from uniformity and divisions,” he added.
Pope Francis described this second “dream” as Jesus’ desire “for a fraternal community, where everyone participates on the basis of a common filial relationship with the Father and as disciples of Jesus.”
“In particular, a community of consecrated life can be a sign of the Kingdom of God by bearing witness to a style of participatory brotherhood between real and concrete people who, with their limitations, choose each day, trusting in the grace of Christ, to live together”, he pointed.
Regarding the dream of the mission, the Holy Father explained that “the Gospel also gives us the dream of Jesus of a total missionary Church”.
“This mandate concerns everyone in the Church. There are no charisms that are missionaries and others that are not,” Pope Francis clarified.
“All charisms, just as they have been given to the Church, are for the evangelization of the world; of course, in different ways, very different, according to God’s ‘imagination’”, he said next.
“A monk who prays in his monastery – continued the Pope – plays his part in bringing the Gospel to that land, in order to teach the people who live there that we have a Father who loves us and that in this world we are on the way to the Darling”.
Lastly, Pope Francis spoke of the dream of “formation”, explaining that “the Gospels show us Jesus taking care of his disciples, patiently educating them, explaining to them, in the margin, the meaning of certain parables; and enlightening them with the word, the testimony of his way of life, of his gestures”.
“The Master dreams of training his friends according to the path of God, which is humility and service,” he assured.
