On 5 September, Pope Francis celebrated a Mass at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, marking the end of his visit to Indonesia. The service, attended by approximately 100,000 Catholics, featured readings in Indonesian and a first reading by a young blind man.
In his homily, delivered in Italian, the Pope reflected on the feast day of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, highlighting two essential attitudes for becoming Jesus’ disciples: listening to and living the Word. He emphasized the importance of embracing God’s friendship and avoiding superficiality.
Pope Francis urged the faithful to trust in God, learn from their failures, and move forward with courage. He stressed that the Word of God must transform and become incarnate in one’s life.
The mass concluded the first leg of the Pope’s Asia-Oceania tour, which will continue in Papua New Guinea on 6 September.
