Pope Francis called for the abolition of the death penalty throughout the world.
The Holy Father asked through his official Twitter account “all people of good will to mobilize to obtain the abolition of the death penalty throughout the world.”
“Society can repress crime without definitively depriving those who have committed it of the possibility of redeeming themselves,” Pope Francis defended.
As every October 10, World Day Against the Death Penalty is celebrated, which has been celebrated for 20 years.
On this 20th World Day Against the Death Penalty, we are invited to reflect “on the relationship between the use of the death penalty and torture or other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment.”
“Let us pray that the death penalty, which violates the inviolability and dignity of the person, be abolished in the laws of all the countries of the world,” the Holy Father asked.
