Pope Francis arrived in Malta on Saturday morning. This is the 36th visit abroad and his first journey in 2022. His two-day visit and pilgrimage to the Mediterranean island will follow in the footsteps of St. Paul and focus on themes of evangelization and the need to welcome, protect and integrate migrants and refugees.
The Holy Father arrived on the Papal ITA Airways plane carrying him, various members of the Curia, and 74 journalists that departed earlier Saturday morning from Rome’s Fiumicino airport.
The Papal trip was postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic.
